Canvas includes two tools that allow students to work together collaboratively within a course: Groups and Collaboration. The Group tool in Canvas provides a secondary course space where group members can communicate through discussions, share files, and create course elements (i.e. Pages). The Group tool also allows instructors to create assignments, discussions, and other course elements specifically for each group.
The Collaboration tool allows small groups of students, or an entire class, to work on a single document in real time. The tool connects to Google Drive and Office365, creates and stores the document on the Google Drive/OneDrive account of the Collaboration creator, and provides a link for any involved students access and edit that document. The Collaboration tool may be used as an individual elements within a course, or in conjunction with the Group tool.
This workshop will cover:
- Creating/Editing group sets and groups
- Creating group discussions and group assignments
- Grading group discussions and group assignments
